This workshop was jointly organized by Carsten Müller-Tidow and Andreas Trumpp and aims to strengthen the ties between fundamental research on the role of stem cells in normal and malignant tissues and research in oncology. The translational side of cancer stem cell research was especially highlighted. Speakers from Germany and abroad presented recent results for clinicians but also basic researchers to highlight burning questions in the field as well as current strategies to improve therapy outcome. The  workshop will took place on Sunday, September 16, opening the program of the SCC 2018 conference.
